January 29, 2010 - Lions and tigers and sharks, oh my!

In this week's instalment of "Where's MC Mic Control" (far more fun than "Where's Waldo", don't you think?), we find our intrepid correspondent performing with the Kiltlifters at the Shark Club in Vancouver. What a night it must have been, the Lads loose on the town with nary a care in the world! Mothers, lock up your daughters. Daughters, most definitely lock up your mothers!

DJ Doc funked his socks off again as he spun a solid mix that couldn't help but get your toes a tappin', your knees a slappin' and your...well...you get the picture. Loom style shouts to Linus and to DJ Prince who kicks it Norwegian-style...that's with extra kippered herring! Whether its Trondheim trip-hop, beats from Bergen, and other oddities from Oslo, DJ Prince brings game!

January 22, 2010 - Hoops du jour, redux.

Another Friday during basketball season meant that the MC was up at the VIU gym holding court (as it were), covering off the announcing duties for the night. Rumour has it that MC Mic Control is being recruited to play point guard next season...way to step up! He's got a basketball jones...

DJ Doc flexed his pecs while he worked the decks (a truly frightening sight). Twas a fun-filled excursion this week, and thank you to everyone who called in...the joint was jumpin'! Loom shouts to Eddie Pedalo and DJ Prince...a special yodel to DJ Y Alias JY, for "Rage Against the Stratus", an absolutely brilliant mashup of Rage Against the Machine vs. jazz-fusion drummer extraordinaire Billy Cobham. An inspired selection of components that is already topping our list of favourite mashes of 2010. If the year is off to this good a start, imagine what the rest of it will be like!

January 15, 2010 - Hoops du Jour!

MC Mic Control was off again tonight, doing the announcing gig at the VIU Mariners basketball games. Women are ranked #4 in the country, while the men are #1...none too shabby! Doc held down the fort and after a bit of a rocky start (technical difficulties) he settled into a fine ol' groove. Some good finds this week, topped by the epic Max Webster / Rush collaboration "Battlescar". Loom shouts to Mad Mix Mustang, DJ Earlybird, and DJ Topcat for some ultrafine mashups!

January 8, 2010 - The Chase is on!

DJ Doc received the most wonderful Christmas gift from MC Mic Control...the three album, 2 CD collected works of the group "Chase". Doc has it all on vinyl, but having it all on CD makes it that much better. We'll be featuring tracks over the next few months...ith is simply one of the most unique, incredible (I mean, c'mon...four trumpets and a rhythm section) sounds you will ever here. Check out the full story on Bill Chase here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Chase here http://www.seeleymusic.com/chase/story.htm and here http://www.jazztrumpetsolos.com/chase.htm

In addition, DJ Doc also got to see Tower of Power between Christmas and New Year's. What a band...there is nothing tighter on the planet! If you can, you must experience them...we defy you to sit calmly and quietly in your seat. Funk takes on an entirely new meaning...hell, they ARE funk!

Doc flew solo tonight. while MC Mic Control was sitting in with Current Swell at a gig in Victoria...one of the last gigs before they head off on a tour of Australia. dj bc, Michmash, and RIAA were looming large as they contributed some fine mashups to the evening's proceedings.

January 1, 2010 - Mailing it in already?

Best of the New Year to you! We certainly thought we'd be bring you our best on New Year's Day, but our fill-in presenter, Otto Mattick...well, he does an absolutely craptacular job of logging what he plays. We don't have a clue what he aired in our collective stead. We do hope that it was good, and that your New Year's resolutions include spending all your Friday evenings with the Loom!
